The Green Chair Experience - Coming to Mosier

Updated: Aug 1

"Sit Yourself Down & Breathe In Mosier"

The innovative and community oriented Green Chair Experience has come to Mosier. The Green Chair Experience is based on a program in the Canadian Parks that began several years ago with the permanent installation of pairs of Adirondack chairs placed around the Canadian parks to encourage visitors to venture out, find the chairs, and take in the most unique and beautiful places. All of them offer an opportunity to rest, relax, and reflect on the place you’ve discovered and the journey you took to get there.

Now, Main Street Mosier (MSM) is bringing this same concept to our “gorge”ous backyard! (Did that bad pun make YOU groan, too?) The first phase of the project will provide pairs of chairs at 5 - 6 locations, potentially including Totem Park, Pocket Park, and Mosier Library. Please, share your suggestions on locations where you’d like to see the Green Chair Experience!

The chairs are made in the U.S., of durable commercial grade, partly recycled HDPE (high-density polyethylene), that is designed to be used outdoors and can withstand the challenges of weather in The Gorge. Each installation of a set of chairs will cost approximately $1,000. These will be permanently installed by magic and, when necessary, hard work. The forest green colors of the chairs are in step with the Gorge Commission color requirements. Donors to the project will have their names engraved on a plaque at each location.

The first pair of chairs was recently installed on the Columbia River path between Mosier Creek and Rock Creek. This location allows those who stop there to enjoy views of the syncline, the Rock Creek beach (on a windy day you will see wind surfers, kite boarders and on calm days paddle boarders and sunbathers) and of course, you will take in an awesome view of the mighty Columbia River.

A generous, anonymous donor and MSM, with permission from the City, made this initial Green Chair Experience installation on the Columbia River path possible. (Thank you, anonymous and very mysterious donor(s)!) MSM is now actively looking for input and funding to install another 5 pairs of chairs around Mosier.

We need you! Partner with some friends to underwrite an installation, sponsor through your business or organization, make an individual small or large donation. Main Street Mosier will combine donations to make these installations possible. You can be as anonymous and mysterious as you’d like or go the other route, and we’ll place your (individual/family/organization/business) name on a plaque with a chair installation.

To make a contribution, just click on our site's Donate Tab, or send a check to Main Street Mosier, PO Box 714, Mosier, OR 97040. Donations of any amount are welcome and appreciated! When you contribute, please include a note about where you would like your donation allocated. We will contact you to confirm spelling of your name/organization on the plaque and the Green Chair installation location. Your ideas on other possible sites for the chairs or any additional comments are greatly needed and appreciated.
